There are a few reasons for this ... your body actually absorbs more magnesium when you supplement with smaller amounts multiple times a day, rather than one large dose once a day.
That said, you can take 2 capsules at a time ... we often recommend 2x at dinner & 2x before bed if sleep is a focus.
Dosage also depends on how much magnesium you're already getting through your diet from foods like leafy greens, legumes, nuts, seeds, avocados, dark chocolate etc.
Some people only need 1 capsule, others might need 4 capsules per day.
And if you're taking 4 capsules, split across multiple different times during the day & into the night is always a good option.
